The Pacific Without the Crowds.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is one of Mexico's hidden gems — Pacific beaches without the Cancún tourist machine, the Cabo prices, or the spring-break kids. While everyone else fights for pool chairs on the Riviera Maya, you're on a quiet stretch of Pacific coast that most American tourists have never heard of.

Why It's Different

El Palmar Bay · Purpose-Built Resort Town

Ixtapa was purpose-built as a resort destination in the 1970s, backed by the natural beauty of Zihuatanejo — a working fishing village just 15 minutes south. You get modern resort infrastructure (good roads, reliable services, clean beaches) with a neighboring town that has actual character: cobblestone streets, waterfront seafood, and local craft markets without the aggressive sales pressure of Cancún.

Why The Property Works

255 Rooms · Beachfront on El Palmar

The Krystal Ixtapa is a 5-star beachfront resort sitting directly on Bahía El Palmar — 4-minute walk to the sand, half a mile to the Los Patios Ixtapa shopping mall, 5 minutes to the Palma Real golf course. Five restaurants, two pools (one with a kids' water slide), a full spa, and a working gym. Most rooms have ocean views from a private balcony.

El Palmar Bay. One of the best beaches in Ixtapa.
“The Pacific here is bigger and louder than the Caribbean. Real waves, real currents, real sunsets that turn the sky gold and pink and purple in the same hour. Watch from the pool deck or the beach itself — the only difference is whether you want a lounger or your feet in the sand.”
— Krystal Hotels & Resorts

Five restaurants. Bogarts is the one everyone remembers.
“Bogarts is Casablanca-themed à la carte — black-and-white, piano in the corner, food a tier above what you'd expect from an all-inclusive. Cinqueterre handles the Italian craving. Velas is the elegant night out. Mediterráneo for the buffet day. The food truck and café fill the gaps. Five different dining moods in five different rooms.”

Getting There

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International (ZIH) is a smaller airport than CUN or PVR — limited direct service from the U.S., heavier reliance on connections through Mexico City. Plan more travel time and you're rewarded with the quietest beach in the BWS portfolio.

Airport
ZIH — Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Intl.
25 min transfer. Highway 200 north along the Pacific coast.
Typical Fare
$420–$780 RT
Direct seasonal service from DFW (American) and IAH (United). Most other US cities connect through MEX or LAX. Aeromexico from MEX. Air Canada Rouge winter-only from YYZ. Book 8–12 weeks out.
Transfer
$30–$60 pp
Shared shuttle, private van, or ADO bus. Confirm fare in writing before boarding any taxi.

Best time: Dec–Apr peak weather. May–Jun shoulder is excellent value. Avoid Jul–Oct (rainy season + occasional Pacific tropical storms). Pacific water is warm but currents are real — the resort beach is generally safe but always check with lifeguards before swimming. Worth knowing: Ixtapa is a slower destination than Cancún or PV. No mega-mall, no row of international chains, no constant nightlife. That's the appeal — but if you need constant entertainment beyond the resort, you may feel limited after a few days.
