Use the Hotel Zone bus where it makes sense, compare cash and card choices, avoid exchange surprises, and decide your paid excursion before the trip starts. A budget trip gets expensive when every decision is made while hungry, tired, or sunburned.
Where to spend
Pick one memorable paid day instead of three average ones. For many travelers, that means Isla Mujeres, reef snorkeling, a cenote/ruins combo, or one Xcaret-style park if the budget allows.
