San Miguel Waterfront
The island's town face: waterfront walk, meals, dive shops, and ferry logistics — best as the bookend to a reef morning, not the whole day.
Town is logistics theater — use it on purpose
San Miguel is where the passenger ferry spits you out, where many operators meet guests, and where lunch happens when the boat returns. Treat the waterfront as infrastructure with personality, not a substitute for Palancar.
A clean town loop
- Clear the ferry zone.
- Store a mental map of your return ferry time (build a buffer).
- Walk the malecón segment that feels busy/safe mid-day.
- Eat a real meal — not only melted-souvenir calories.
- If shops call to you, set a spending cap before you enter.
Pairing with the water day
Best: morning snorkel/dive boat or Chankanaab → afternoon San Miguel → ferry.
Weak: entire day shopping with one hurried snorkel if reef was the reason you came.
From Riviera Maya resorts
Sandos Playacar remains the ferry king. Hotel Zone Cancún guests should start earlier. Always re-check Ultramar/Winjet style schedules the day before — last ferries matter.

Ferry buffer is non-negotiable
Build 45–60 minutes of slack before your target return ferry. Island days die on the pier when the last boat is a stress dream.
Stay ferry-close when Cozumel is the point
Playacar and nearby Riviera Maya bases turn Cozumel into a clean single day. That is the Vacation Club logistics win.
